What is a Comfort Zone?
We often hear it said or even say it ourselves, "It is time to get out of your Comfort Zone!" But what do we mean with this saying? The word 'comfort' means "to strengthen greatly" And the word 'Zone' means "a region or area set off as distinct from surrounding or adjoining parts."
When we put these two defintions together, we get an area in which we place our strength. Depending on how we view our Comfort Zone is the answer to whether it is a positive or negative. If our Comfort Zone is Christ, then it is a positive. This is the Comfort Zone we are to operate out of on a daily basis. He is our strength and we must draw on Him to live daily. However, to often this is not the Comfort Zone in which we operate.
We have a tendancy to operate out of a Comfort Zone in which our fleshly strengths come to the front. We make decisions based on our wisdom and our experience instead of God's wisdom and His word. When we begin to operate out of rote without giving any thought to what God would want, then we are on the verge of failure. Failure because God will not allow us to get the glory.
How do I get out of a negative Comfort Zone? We must let go of Self strength and take hold of the Savior. The One who desires to have complete control of your life. The One who desires to be your all in all. As the psalmist proclaims in Psalm 33:16-19Living for His Glory,
16 The king is not saved by a mighty army;
A warrior is not delivered by great strength.
17 A horse is a false hope for victory;
Nor does it deliver anyone by its great strength.
18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope for His lovingkindness,
19 To deliver their soul from death
And to keep them alive in famine.
In your comfort zone, who is your strength? If it is you, then you need to get out of your comfort zone and get into the Lord's.
Living for His Glory,
